RachelRachel is a singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. Given two first names by her parents, she knew from a young age that she was born to have her name(s) in lights.
Rachel was born into a family of musicians. Partly due to this, but mostly due to the fact that there was very little to do in the small country town she grew up in, she began writing songs from a very young age. At age eight she performed her first original song live on local radio. At sixteen, she was flown to Sydney to perform at the opening of Education Week. This sparked her love of live performance and soon after this, she moved to Sydney and formed the duo Falling Down Stairs with her cousin. They gained a solid local fan base performing along the East Coast of Australia in venues from Sydney to Hamilton Island. They supported Angus & Julia Stone (among others) and performed live on tv and radio.
Rachel moved to the Northern Territory in 2016 to focus on her solo music career. Rachel’s sound has been described as Ellie Goulding-meets-Ed Sheeran. With her unique vocal styling, she is a prolific songwriter and has a knack for writing songs with raw, relatable lyrics, fast flow and catchy melodies. 2018 saw her win a peer-polled competition to play on the Bass in the Grass Festival lineup, open for the Pierce Brothers and open for Diesel. 2019 already has her booked for support spots for The Jezabels, Tapestry, Electrik Lemonade and Boo Seeka. The first single 'Not the Same' from her debut solo EP 'Inertia', has already won NT Song of the Year in the electronic category and was a semi-finalist in the International Songwriting Competition.
In March 2020, as the COVID-19 crisis shuttered all entertainment venues in the NT, Darwin Live offered an online performance venue where local musicians, DJs and comedians could have an opportunity to perform and connect with their audiences both locally and outside the NT.
